UK Web hosting provider Fasthosts announced on Wednesday that it automatically reset many of its customers control panel and FTP passwords last Thursday. The Web host wrote to all its customers last week, warning them that it had found a network intrusion involving a Fasthosts server, and recommended that all customers update their control panel, FTP and email passwords.
Last Thursday, Fasthosts learned that a small number of customers who had not changed their passwords had discovered their FTP space compromised. To remedy this, Fasthosts performed automatic password changes to the customers that did not change their passwords.
Fasthosts says it will also automatically change all unchanged email passwords on December 13. The Web host will send the affected customers their new passwords via Royal Mail and inform them of all changes and the proper steps they should take.
The company announced last week it changed the passwords of some of its customers after its servers suffered an intrusion and account details were compromised.
