HostGator has given gifts to support cancer fighting initiatives, while promoting education in underdeveloped countries, following a successful 2007.
HostGator gave $100,000 to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, and $25,000 to One Laptop per Child. The gifts were decided upon by HostGator management and staff, including a significant contribution to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
Brent Oxley, President of HostGator noted,
”The gift to Anderson reflected a mix of the wishes of the staff here at HostGator and suggestions from our users. It’s pretty hard to find anybody whose life hasn’t been touched in some way — directly or indirectly — by cancer. We gave to them, partly because we’re located in Houston and some of our employees have had family members treated there, but mostly we gave because of their amazing country-wide reputation for treating patients and researching cancer cures.”
In addition. HostGator donated to the international organization, One Laptop Per Child. The Anderson Cancer Center received a gift of $100,000 and One Laptop per Child received $25,000. The goal of One Laptop per Child is spelled out in its name: to improve the educational opportunities for children in underdeveloped regions by giving every child access to an inexpensive, durable, web-capable laptop. At $100 each, the gift from HostGator should provide at least 250 laptops.
The gift to One Laptop per Child was another easy decision, according to Mr. Oxley,
”If it wasn’t for the internet and computers we wouldn’t be in business. If just one of the kids can further their knowledge in computers and make a career out of it, in some shape or form, it will have been worth every penny.”

Web host and Internet solutions provider, Aplus, has introduced extensive upgrades to its line of shared hosting plans, coinciding with the company’s ten-year anniversary promotion waiving set-up fees on upgraded plans.
Gabriel Murphy, President and CEO of Aplus noted,
”For more than a decade, Aplus has prided itself on being the ultimate online partner for everyone from business owners to the everyday consumer. To further demonstrate our commitment to our valued and loyal customer base - as well as our responsibility as a hosting industry leader - we’ve not only simplified our plans to make them more intuitive and understandable, but we’ve also added additional features, thereby maximizing the value to the consumer.”
The principal change involves condensing the company’s original eight shared hosting plans into four renamed platforms: the Personal Plan, the Business Class Plan, the Pro Plan, and the eCommerce Plan. Each plan is available in both Unix and Windows formats. The strategy of replacing existing plan names with more straightforward identifiers is intended to simplify the selection process for consumers, while making the plans themselves better focused and easier to understand. The company is also expanding some applications and features, including ramping up the SQL offerings on many of these plans.
As of today, these improvements have already been launched, and with no corresponding price increase, according to company officials. In addition, to help kick off the revamped hosting plans - and as part of the company’s ten-year celebration of being a shared hosting provider - Aplus has announced that it is eliminating all set-up fees on the new hosting plans.
Mr. Murphy added,
”We view this move as the next logical step in growing our company. Times have changed since Aplus first got into the shared hosting game in 1998, and we’re making the necessary modifications to stay competitive. But more importantly, all this will ultimately make it easier for consumers to navigate our website, making the Aplus shopping experience as user-friendly as possible.”

Resellers Panel, the emblem of free reseller hosting, announces the launch of its new line of dedicated, semi-dedicated and virtual private servers. A dedicated hosting service means that the client rents an entire server not shared with anyone else, which is typically located in a data center. Besides choosing one of ResellersPanel’s five predefined dedicated server packages offering top-notch hardware and the latest cutting-edge processors from Intel and AMD, the more advanced users can also build their own server configuration up from scratch. They are provided with complete root access and thus will be able to install and configure any additional software, and also to reboot the server at any time. Those who do not possess the skills necessary to maintain a dedicated server can consider one of ResellersPanel’s Managed Services packages and free themselves of any administration responsibilities.
Resellers Panel has launched three virtual private server packages offering 200, 400 and 800 GB monthly traffic, respectively, as well. A virtual private server implies the division of a physical server into smaller virtual ones, which work as if they were dedicated servers and run their own full-fledged operating systems. The users can choose between Cent OS, Fedora Core 4 and Debian OSs, and between Plesk and cPanel web hosting control panel types. They can reboot their machines independently with the help of the Virtuozzo Power Console, a software-based virtualization environment, and install almost any software that runs on the chosen OS. The semi-dedicated servers, on the other hand, will be accommodating no more than 5-6 accounts each, so that every user will be able to use up to 20% of the CPU resources, perform up to 90 000 MySQL queries per hour and host unlimited domains and e-mail addresses.
In addition, Resellers Panel has started offering hosting services that use servers located in the BlueSquare data center in Maidenhead, England - a move the company has made to the benefit of its European clients. The rest of the servers are housed in Peer1’s data center in Fremont, California.
ResellersPanel’s CEO Kalin Blaskoff said that Resellers Panel dedicates the dedicated servers to its dedicated clients, that the company has deployed servers located in the United Kingdom because of the growing demand from its resellers, 25% of whom prefer to be hosted on European-based servers because of their geographical location, and that compared to the American hosting market, the European one is twice as big in terms of population.
Nick Blaskov, CFO of Resellers Panel, said that the semi-dedicated hosting solution is for those who find the resources offered by a shared hosting account inconsistent with their growing online requirements, that the virtual private servers combine the affordability of a shared account with the power and independence offered by a dedicated server, and that the dedicated server solution lets the users host their websites on their own independent server and thus say good-bye to any speed, stability and bandwidth-related troubles encountered with the other types of hosting.
