Well, I first searched the web for as many articles on various web hosts for a shared hosting and found out hostgator. It was one of the best ranked webhosts and hence i decided to give it a shot. And it served me well. Till now no problems. It has a great support, one of the best billing systems, quality uptime and a handy cpanel features

Customer support is what i felt is the star of hostgator. With the live support very responsive and ready to help you any time you are live with them. I have not tried the telephonic support yet

Till now no downtime in my hosting lifetime with them although sometimes the server is a bit slow while processing mysql. But that is rare.
