It's a Windows-centric host that severely limits opportunities for creative web development. Linux plans have many essential PHP features disabled (ini_set(), dl(), error_reporting()...), come with an appallingly limited control panel, and do not permit Java applications. Brinkster only gives one MySQL database.

Brinkster Live Chat does not work in Firefox. I once asked a technician to enable a server log for my account. He agreed to do it and has not done it yet (it has been about half a year since my request). When I asked them to move me from a Windows plan to a Linux plan, they forced me to move all of my files manually. Usually my conversation with support technicians go like this:
- Hey, does Brinkster support ?
- No, unfortunately we do not currently support .
- Are there any plans to implement it?
- Not at the moment. However, you may send suggestions for new features to feedback@brinkster.com.
I've tried sending suggestions and quickly found out that the last statement has the same effect as "No, we don't support it and never will."

When I was on a Windows plan, my website kept going down all the time. I constantly had to contact Brinkster so they would reboot their IIS (or whatever it is they did). It was commonplace for FTP to die on a command.
Since I've been moved to a Linux plan, the reliability has been very good. In fact, my site hasn't gone down once.

If you intend to use PHP and MySQL, stay away from Brinkster. I have been disappointed countless times when I tried to implement a new feature and was told by a support technician that it's forbidden by Brinkster. I have never done any web development using Microsoft technologies (ASPX, MSSQL...), so I can't say how well Brinkster does there. But for non-Microsoft web development, Brinkster only retards creativity and severs progress.
