1and1's website is quite daunting when you first load it. Currently, they have numbers flashing all over the place trying to encourage you to purchase. I'm not so sure this is an effective approach, but let's take a look at their web hosting.

1and1 offers many different options from running a business website, to shared web hosting, to dedicated servers and virtual private servers. Overall, 1and1 should have everything you need to get started including eCommerce hosting, email hosting, and even free domain registrations for new customers.

Currently, 1and1 doesn't rank well with customer hosting reviews due to several negative reviews that have yet to be responded to by 1and1. We worry about the overall quality of their web hosting.

1and1 offers the following statement from their CEO Oliver Mauss:

Editor's Comments About 1and1 Price Value

1and1 offers are very good. Currently they provide either heavily discounted or even free web hosting to new customers so that they can try out their hosting with moderate risk. Our problem is that 1and1 does not allow you to sign up for just three months to make sure 1and1 will work. Instead, they will charge you a setup fee and a full 9 months of service to qualify for the free web hosting promotion.

The only other option 1and1 offers is to take their optional plan that waived the free months promotion and sets you up on a monthly flat rate. Overall, an excellent value. Please be sure to read 1and1's fine print before ordering, customer hosting reviews notices a lot of fine print near the bottom of the ordering pages, make sure you agree with the fine print before ordering.

1and1 may have some issues with reliability. It appears that reliability is hit or miss depending on the server they place you on. You may (or may not) get better service is you opt for their more expensive plans. We have read several independent reviews of 1and1 that say their business hosting options and the other more expensive options are good quality.

We at customer hosting reviews are unable to find any information on 1and1's control panel. It appears 1and1 utilizes a proprietary control panel.

1and1 has previously received several complaints about nonexistent customer support here on customer hosting reviews. Please be sure to do your due-diligence and make sure their support is the quality you require before purchasing. As with all review sites, people tend to report problems more frequently than reporting great experiences. Be sure 1and1 is the quality you require by calling, emailing, and whatever else you feel the need to test before making your purchase.

Overall, we at customer hosting reviews feel that 1and1 should offer many more support options. We were unable to locate a community forum, an expanded knowledge base, an extensive how-to database, and several other options we feel should be made available before purchasing. We also love live chat as a support option and, unfortunately, we couldn't find any live chat support options available for 1and1.
